Migraine HeadachesOne in ten people suffer from regular migraine headaches causing billions of dollars of lost work hours and revenue in North America and more importantly, incredible human suffering. New information on the causes of headaches is proving helpful for treatment. There are many possible causes of headaches such as meningitis, brain tumors and head injuries. These causes, however, are not common and are often easily ruled out by a good history and examination by your doctor. The two most common forms of re-occurring headaches are tension headache and migraine. Tension headaches are exactly that, caused by tension in the surface muscles of the neck referring pain into the head. The treatment is careful instructional stretching of the neck like The Lamb Program™. As well simple pain and anti-inflammatory therapy such as Advil or Motrin are effective. Migraine Headaches are severe headaches, often with nausea, vomiting, blurry vision or eye , arm or facial pain or numbness. New research demonstrates that blood vessels can enlarge and tighten causing pain and various neurological or nerve changes. New, safe medications are available to block these vessel changes in the head thereby reversing the headache. Many people’s lives have been helped by these medications. Interestingly, like tension headaches, peripheral research, indicates that these vessel changes in the head, that cause migraine, may be caused by deep spinal muscles in the neck causing nerve entrapment in the neck leading to vessel changes in the head. New therapies focusing in the neck and spine are also showing great promise for headache therapy. New Understanding Migraines Headaches & TMJ DVD featuring Dr. LambDr. Lamb, After learning from you about migraines and how to do your Lamb program of stretching, I found out that my migraines were based in my neck. I used to have migraines four times a month on average. Sometimes they would last a couple of days. I would have to leave work and sometimes would throw-up before I could get home. I have not had a migraine in two years. I know longer have to wake up each day wondering if I'll have a migraine today. With my job and my family - it has been great to be migraine free!
