Osteoporosis Pain & Treatment Many people confuse both osteoarthritis and osteoporosis and in my opinion, many health professionals unfairly blame osteoporosis for the cause of their pain. Let’s get it straight. Osteoporosis occurs in both men and women but more severely in women, especially after menopause. Osteo refers to bone and porosis really indicates large pores or holes and therefore osteoporosis really means holes in the bones or weakening in the bony structure. It's sort of like losing many of the support girders in a building. The important points are that osteporosis increases the risk of fractures in the back , hips and wrists. It is generally painless unless a fracture occurs. It affects the middle of the bones and not the joints. Osteoarthritis refers to joint wear and tear and is the most common form of arthritis and it can and does affect every joint in the body- the spine, shoulders, knees, hips, hands and more. It can cause pain occasionally or all the time and it may not initially be seen on an x-ray. Someone with knee and back pain most likely suffers from osteoarthritis in the knee joint and suffers an osteoporotic fracture or broken vertebrae in the low back. They are completely different and have very different treatments. Click Here For Our War On Pain Video - Tools For The Battle |
