Drugs and Docs Inc. offers Health Paks created by Dr. Lamb for fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis and mind & energy and are now available online. Bee Pollen Bee Pollen is a concentrated source of essential elements. It contains water soluble vitamins that are especially high in Vitamins B and C, 22 amino acids, 27 minerals including calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and as much as 5000 enzymes. It contains essential fatty acids that cannot be manufactured by the body such as linoleic acid and linolenic acid. Many use Bee Pollen for "immune support." Royal Jelly Royal Jelly is a rich source of acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is a very important chemical in the body known as a neurotransmitter. Acetylcholine is necessary for nerves and muscles to fire and function. Acetylcholine is found within the brain and peripheral nerves. Royal Jelly contains Vitamin B complex including B6 and B5 (pantothenic acid) which are thought to play a role in fat metabolism. It is thought that Royal jelly may benefit those with memory disturbance and arthritis. HMB HMB or B-hydroxy-B-Methylbutyrate is derived by metabolism of the amino acid leucine. It may be found in citrus and catfish. It is produced in the liver by the body from the amino acid leucine. The body can produce 2 to 4 grams per day. Research demonstrates that HMB can increase muscle mass in livestock. In the human study by Nissen et al.1996 where 1.5 to 3.0 grams per day were consumed with resistance training, muscle mass can increase, and muscle breakdown can be reduced. Body fat can also be significantly reduced. This may have a significant application upon chronic pain management. Creatine Creatine may be found in meat and fish. It increases muscle phosphocreatine content, which is absorbed by muscle cells, and can become an energy that is important in transitions from rest to exercise. More recent research demonstrates that low dose creatine (3 grams per day) can be as effective high dose creatine (20 grams per day) in increasing muscle creatine. The lower dosing regimen seems to be as effective as the higher dosing regimen, except a slight time lag of weeks instead of days for strength results. Creatine increases the load on kidneys, and must be avoided in those with kidney disease. The elderly and injured may benefit with pain reduction and faster rehabilitation. Dong Quai and Soy Dong Quai is a powdered dried root used in traditional Chinese medicine for over 2000 years. Traditional Chinese Medicine has commonly used Dong Quai for treatment of the hot flashes of menopause. Soy is a plant estrogen (phytoestrogen) that may also be used to reduce the hot flashes of menopause. Soybean consumption is associated with lower rates of heart disease, osteoporosis, breast cancer, prostate cancer in men, and colon cancer. Ginseng Ginseng is a common name for a large group of plants consisting of 55 genera and 700 species of herbs, trees and shrubs. It occurs in the tropical and temperate zones with it’s greatest concentration in the American tropics and Indo-Malaysian region. Ginseng is a neurostimulant with supposed aphrodisiac qualities which is extracted from the roots of ginseng plants. Sterinol By Moducare Phytosterols are in all fruits and vegetables as sterols and sterolins. Often the cooking or preparation process alters the ratio or destroys the phytosterols. Moducare’s sterinol is said to "modulate" the immune system to reduce an overactive immune system, as in rheumatoid arthritis and boost the immune system in cases of an underactive immune system. Moducare, out of South Africa, has double blind placebo studies demonstrating benefit in arthritis, BPH or benign prostatic hypertrophy, tuberculosis and HIV. Glucosamine Sulfate and Glucosamine Hydrochloride Glucosamine was one of the first alternative supplements to become popular in North America. Research indicates that glucosamine is one of the building blocks for cartilage. Glucosamine is an aminomonosaccharide that occurs naturally in the body, and is essential for normal growth and repair of connective tissue, joints and articular cartilage. Lab tests indicate that 98% of glucosamine is absorbed due to its small molecular size, suggesting it may penetrate cartilage more easily. Despite being well absorbed, it may cause occasional bloating. There are generally two forms of glucosamine; glucosamine HCL and glucosamine sulfate. There is some controversy over which one is superior, however, the HCl version is favored by many experts in the field. Visit the Iasis Shoppe at DrugsandDocs.com on our sister website.
